Crochet Holly Berries and Leaves

Pattern – Holly Berries and Leaves

Size: Leaves are approximately 4 1/2″ by 4 1/2″.
Materials: I Love This Yarn (a worsted weight or size 4 yarn) from Hobby Lobby. Small amounts of Red #40 and Forest #180.
Tools: Boye crochet hook, U.S. size H.
Gauge: Not necessary to maintain gauge.
Special Stitches Used: Picot = ch 3, sl st in the two front lps at the top of the sc or top of the dc just made.

Leaf (make 2 with Green)

Leaf

Starting at center of leaf, chain 12.
Rnd 1: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in each of next 2 chs, dc in each of next 2 chs, tr in each of next 2 chs, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch, ch 2. Working on opposite side of beg ch, sc in first ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in each of next 2 chs, dc in each of next 2 chs, hdc in each of next 2 chs, sc in each of next ch 2 chs, ch 2. DO NOT turn, continue working around leaf.
Rnd 2: Sc in first sc, Picot (see Special Stitches Used above), sc in same st, sl st in each of next 2 sts, * (dc, Picot, dc in next st), sl st in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from * one time, (sc, Picot, sc) in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next ch-2 sp, ch 5, sc in second ch from hook and in each of next 3 chs, sl st in same ch-2 sp.
Working on opposite side of leaf, (sc, Picot, sc) in next st, sl st in each of next 2 sts, * (dc, Picot, dc) in next st, sl st in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from * one time, (sc, Picot, sc) in next st, sl st in next st, sc in next ch-2 sp, Picot, sl st in beg sc. Fasten off, leaving about an 8″ tail for sewing.

Berry Cluster (make 1 with Red)

First berry: Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 4 sc in second ch from hook. Rnd 2: Work 1 sc in each sc around = 4 sc. Rnd 3: Work 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, sk next sc, sc in next sc = 3 sc. DO NOT fasten off. Second berry: Ch 3, work 4 sc in second ch from hook, then work rnds 2 and 3 as for first berry. Third berry: Ch 1, sl st in ch between first and second berry, ch 2 and work rnds 1 through 3 as for first berry. Fasten off, leaving about an 8″ tail for sewing.

Finishing: Place one leaf over one leaf as shown in photo and sew together. Place Berry Cluster over leaves as shown in photo and sew in place.

dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
lp or lps = loop or loops
rnd or rnds = round or rounds
sc = single crochet
tr = triple or treble crochet

( ) enclosing a particular stitch combination denotes that the stitch combination must be repeated from that point.
